May 1st, 2008 – Edison, NJ:
Coming after Bhaskar’s stupendous hit
Bommarillu and Allu Arjun’s Desa Muduru,
PARUGU brings out an entirely different
dimension of Allu Arjun as an actor, while reinforcing Bhaskar’s strengths as a
film maker who as much understands the young generation as much he is aware of the
elderly audience.
While in Bommarillu,
through the character of Siddarth he propagates how the younger generation is suffocated
by overt authority of their parents, in Parugu
through the character of Allu Arjun, he unveils yet another aspect of the psyche
of today’s youngsters who are capable of realizing and rectifying their unintentional
mistakes.
Aided by a
sensible and sensitive director like Bommarillu Bhaskar, Allu Arjun demonstrates
great maturity and courage in portraying his role. Allu Arjun plays a character
very different from any of his earlier films, one which brings out his true potential
as an actor. Nevertheless his superb dancing skills are yet again showcased in the
spectacular ‘Elalgelaga’ song sung for the first time in Telugu by Kailash Kher.
Given the profile and preferences of the overseas audiences
this film is tailor made to be a wholesome family entertainment package that will
enthrall them.
But the film has registered a unique distinction that has
never happened in many many years in the history of Telugu cinema. That being, the
main plot of the film bearing some uncanny resemblance to some
recent real life incidents involving high profile people, the film
has inadvertently triggered a huge debate among the audience, because of which their
reactions tend to be extreme. But to realize how finely the film strikes a balance,
you got to watch it.
All said and done, this is one film that should be watched
for its magic, irrespective of any reaction or any opinion
including the above.
