Press Release:
God bless Good Cinema, God bless Godavari
EDISON, New
Jersey - June 8th 2006:
It's great news for the audiences, for the movie makers, for the technicians
and it's a great fillip to good cinema. Godavari, a medium budget film is
set to top popularity charts in a spectacular fashion. The strength of the
film is a simple story told beautifully. No double entendres, no loud
comedy, no hamming and no nonsense. The film vindicated the choice of Telugu
movie goers by proving beyond doubt that they always love and endorse good
cinema.
Uppongele' Godavari.. (The
River Godavari bursts forth, transporting with joy...), the title song of
Sekhar Kammula's Godavari goes thus. The unmatched lyrical beauty of the
Legendary Veturi Sundarramurthy seems to have found an equivalent in the US
cinemas with the consistently swelling crowds even after three weeks. Call
it nostalgia, call it a delightfully entertaining sojourn, call it the new
age Telugu movie makers crowning glory, call it the essence of the Telugu
culture or just a clean family movie, call it whatever but one has to admit
it that it has caught the imagination of the Telugu audiences like few films
in its league before.
Centers like Los
Angeles (with 750+ people), Minneapolis (with 600+ people), Houston (with
600+ people), Boston (with 500+ people) etc are creating records for a film
in this category, that too in the third week of its release. All the six
prints are booked till late July, due to the heavy bookings. An extra print
is being added in the fifth week in the USA. While in other territories like
Australia, UK, Gulf etc.., for the first time there are persistent demands
for reruns. It is no surprise with this kind of appreciation, the film may
even run for up to 10 weeks in some centers in USA. God bless Good Cinema,
God bless connoisseurs of Good Cinema. Amen!
